Our Fundamentals
We invest in retiring owners who care deeply about what happens next for their companies. We share that commitment because we champion the long-term well-being of employees, customers, suppliers, and local communities. Our goal is simple: to protect your legacy and foster environments where people genuinely flourish, both personally and professionally. With that said, here are our Fundamentals:
Honor Our Commitments
We believe that building trust is being consistent over time. which help to build deep, lasting partnerships.
To us, reliability isn't a vague ideal. It means:
-
Doing what we say we will do.
-
Delivering when we say we will.
-
Honoring the exact prices and terms we agreed to.
We are human, and the real world is unpredictable—but our intention remains. Whether it means respecting your time on a call, responding swiftly to your needs, paying out an earn-out with genuine kindness, or keeping our promise to, we do our best to protect our word. If we ever miss the mark, let us know. We will fix it.
No Vice, No Harm
We intentionally choose not to invest in vice industries—such as gambling, tobacco, adult entertainment, or cannabis—nor do we partner with industries tied to weaponry or defense contracting. We readily acknowledge that these are profitable, legitimate businesses, and we respect that different people hold different viewpoints on their role in society. While these are often businesses that work well within many investment funds and private equity, they fall outside our investment boundaries. We recognize the role the defense sector plays in national security, just as we respect that everyone holds their own viewpoints on these industries. For us, however, the choice is clear.
We have no desire to generate financial returns at the expense of human well-being. We understand that weapons can and are used for safety, security and recreation, but we are not passionate about any part of those industries. We don't even invest in pest control. Instead, we choose to align our most precious resource—time—exclusively with businesses that create clear, positive, and enduring value. To us, building a true blueprint for longevity means ensuring our time capital leaves an undeniably positive footprint on the world.
Here is a partial list of what vice or harm businesses is to us:

No Assholes
To be clear, the intent of this policy, is not to categorize a specific group of people and seemingly dismiss them. We are all works-in-progress. We firmly believe that every individual possesses equal dignity and worth, regardless of their personal characteristics or circumstances.
However, some people are considerably messier than others. The most toxic among them we will call "assholes," because milder terms like "jerk" or "difficult" fail to capture the gravity of their impact. While this behavior wears many masks, it always leaves people feeling worse when interacting with said asshole—both during the interaction and long after the person has left the room.
Yet, we are also fountains of inexplicable generosity, clarity, and kindness. We possess an incredible capacity—and a deep-seated need—for love and self-sacrifice. We crave genuine relationships built on mutual care rather than transactional utility. Time and again, we rise to the occasion, especially when we stand together. We are messy, lovely creatures and none of us are the exception.
Since we spend more hours in the day with our colleagues than we do with our family, we choose to work with people we admire, in environments we enjoy, on work we love. This is why we enforce a strict “no assholes” policy. We have zero tolerance for sexual harassment, abuse, deception, physical aggression, threats, and theft will not be tolerated in any capacity. However, reckless communication, intentional office drama, or politics will be looked at similarly. People are everything. A business is nothing more than people striving to accomplish something together why waste your day with people you loathe when you could be working with people you love.
Of course, we are all flawed—at best, we are all assholes in recovery. The difference as we see it, is that we have made some sort of an effort to reel in our worst tendencies and done what we can to try to embody some form of self-awareness and self-control. We attempt to do our best to approach every conversation and partnership with compassion, humility, and grace but sometimes we fall short. This is not that we experience when we deal with a real asshole.
We cannot imagine a more rewarding charge than stewarding small businesses for the next 30 years from the retiring owners who built them. However, in line with our no harm clause above, we would be remiss, not to include a No Assholes policy to protect the people we care about—our team—from those who aim to harm them emotionally or entangle their time in office politics. It would be a more efficient use of our time to either walk away from our engagement or just make an offer to buy the business outright and correct the issues ourselves rather. Either way, we won't waste our time in areas that will detriment ourselves or our team.
Nurture growth
All change is hard—especially a change in ownership. Our first goal is to do no harm. We acquire and hire and partner with businesses, people and teams who are already highly successful, serve customers faithfully, and know their industry better than we ever will. We have an unusual vantage point, but we have lived long enough to know the dangers of pride and haste.
As such we reject the traditional acquisition playbook:
-
Instead of dictating, we do our best to listen and learn.
-
Instead of cutting staff and benefits, we ask what resources we need to flourish.
-
Instead of intense timelines, we intentionally for the long term.
-
Instead of bowing to bank debt, we reject banks to put revenue to better use

Be supportive, not authoritative
If you’re looking for suits with spreadsheets who bark orders from boardrooms, we’ll let you down. We’re just operators like you who know how to get our hands dirty. At our core, we provide operational resources and some hard-won experience. Beyond that, we don’t have a set formula for involvement – our role varies depending on needs, team, and growth of each company.
Many owners and leadership teams tend to want to point us toward where they think we can be most useful. This typically lands in what we lovingly call the “same circus, different clowns” layer of operations: modernizing financial systems, scaling marketing and lead generation, navigating legal frameworks, recruiting top talent, evaluating technology, and introducing our network of specialists. That's fine as long as that is actually where we are needed most.
We reject growth for growth’s sake and we refuse to cut costs for short-term profit. Our decisions are based strictly on what makes the company stronger. We instead build for sturdy growth, a committed team that feels seen and appreciated, and a willingness to take measured risks.
Blueprint for longevity
We have spent years operating in the trenches, and we recognize two clear patterns:
-
Plans rarely pan out exactly as planned.
-
Good things take time and often a dash of the unanticipated.
Because of this, the path to sturdy growth isn’t a rigid business plan—it is a belief in constant improvement, deliberate optimism, and an operational approach anchored on honesty, agility, and a win-together mentality.
Building strong foundations, community roots, and true customer loyalty requires consistency, patience and time. We believe doing what you say you are going to do is actually the ultimate competitive advantage.
Let’s build together. If this sounds like the kind of partnership you are looking for, drop us a line.
We would love to chat.
